(This poem was written for a mother whose child’s life was cut short by a reckless driver while walking to school.)

You are in my Heart

The Sky of my soul
Lit sparkling bright
With a beaming little sun
When I saw...My Baby…
Your beautiful face
For the very first time

My shivering body
Felt the warmth
Of a sunny spring day
When I held you…My Baby…
In my arms
For the very first time

You gave me sunshine
When the days were gray
You filled my heart with joy
When happiness was away

Your radiant smile…
Your gleaming eyes…
Your tender embrace…
Your soothing voice…
Filled me …my Baby…
With gratitude
For the Almighty

Then one wretched moment
The world stopped still…
With a violent thump
The sun was dismayed…
The moon sighed in vain…
When your life
Was taken away
For reason arcane

If only one could fathom
The unfathomable pain
In each and every breath
I inhaled…

My strength was torn apart
So was my heart…
My faith staggered
In God and in all

But my baby
I know…you are
Here with me
Not far apart

Wherever I look…
I see you around…
I see you in the sky…
I see you in the wind…
I see you in the clouds…
I see you in the stars…
I see you in the moon…
I see you in the rain…
I see you in the snow…
I see you in the rainbow…

Yes…! My baby….
You are all around
And here in my heart
